I remember Zoo Tycoon. Still have an ultimate collection around here somewhere. I used to play that game a lot. And then I lost interest when I found minecraft.
I personally highly dislike Garrysmod because of lua. I am fine with using lua for computercraft, but I cannot mod Garrysmod period because of it's API.
As RavynousHunter said, C# and Java are almost exactly the same. I find myself trying to use C# functions in my java all the time. I have not...

C# is my preferred language. (Sorry, everyone who loves java) I use Visual studio for development, and I am entry-level with threading and very good at event-based programming.
Until Microsoft releases what they are going to do completely, I am unwatching this thread. I no longer care about pointless conjecture unless Microsoft changes that.
My suggestion: Don't quit. Microsoft bought it, but Mojang will probably still develop it. So we shouldn't see too many changes. And if they kill modding, well, we have 1.2.5 - 1.8. I am not quiting. Until I get tired of Minecraft I am not quiting.
