Hmm, well w/out being able to see your install directly. It sounds like UAC is blocking the launch of Java. You could *TEST* by turning UAC off temporarily. If it works w/ UAC off, then you need to find a way to run the launcher as an admin, perhaps by starting a cmd prompt as admin and...

What OS are you running?

That sounds like garbage collection getting out of control. How much ram do you have allocated to the process? More is not always better...

Based on the specs, I have 2 guesses. 1 - The old laptop had the discrete GFX option and the new one has the integrated Intel one only. or 2 - Some sort of driver misconfig. Note -If they BOTH had only the integrated GFX card, i would doubly suspect a driver issue.

What was the old laptop and what's the new one? Looking for the GFX card specs specifically. If they are the 'same', what driver version are you running?

Also, I did a bit of googling, and sounds like others ran into the same issue w/ your GFX chipset and certain driver versions. Some folks fixed it by rolling back a version or 2.

Can you run Minecraft in Full Screen mode and see if the issue persists?
