Greg Tech opinion discussions go here

Nothing that Greg hasn't been doing for ages, really, 80% of his mod is dedicated to overriding other people's mods in the name of Greg's ideal of balance.

About difficulty/tedium and the terms we use (GT and similar)

I'd still say it's just as bad because the motive is still trying to force the players to use Greg's sawmill instead of improving the gameplay experience.

Technically Greg did include the option to revert his silly wood nerf in his config, but it doesn't make Greg's reaction any less ludicrous.

Dartcraft: One of the most overpowered mods of our time

That was my point, yes, Dartcraft can now perform one of the functions that Gregtech had, which means I now have one less reason to use the WGT pack when the NGT pack is much more fun.

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

mDiyo didn't actually change any of Greg's code, mDiyo added a new recipe to the Forge dictionary that would override one of Greg's. As for whether or not the rule applies to Forestry, that's up to the FTB honchos to decide, I personally believe that the reason the code is there should be taken...

Which just makes it even worse, because instead of the change being about rebalancing something broken or just adding extra challenge it's purely about vanity. "Nobody's using my sawmill! Why isn't anyone using my sawmill? It's awesome! How can I get people to use my awesome sawmill..? I know...

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

There's a reason that motive is taken into consideration during a trial, there's a difference between killing someone who's broken into your home and threatened the lives of your loved ones and killing a man because you don't like the way he wears his hat, similarly there's a difference between...

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

That's the thing, I don't view this as a wrong, Gregtech changes recipes, vanilla or otherwise, it's what Greg does, I don't agree with many of the changes but I don't think what he does is wrong, what I think is wrong is that when someone comes along and does it to him he throws a tantrum...

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

If making changes to other mods were considered an issue Gregtech should have been out of FTB from the start, honestly I find this idea that mDiyo is even remotely at fault silly, as you pointed out Greg has been doing the exact same thing for ages and the community has overall been fine with...

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

mDiyo did act like a reasonable, mature adult, he went to Greg's thread on IC2's forums and publicly requested a cease-fire in a polite manner.

Nah, first Greg would disable the vanilla recipe and require you to use the new Bedinator to craft it using a dozen wool, a stack of feathers, steel springs crafted with the new Enspringinator machine, and a bed frame.

    The Future of FTB Modpacks.

Most modding communities I've been a part with over the years these things don't come up often because most modders will include in the readme, Nexus, or whatever site they post their mod on a section regarding permissions, either stating that you can use their work in whatever mods you wish as...

Pointless is how I would describe Greg's wood nerf in the first place, unless you include forcing the player to muck about with Greg's sawmill a point, what mDiyo did I would describe as convenient as it means one less thing I have to worry about trying to find in the disorganised mess that Greg...

Dartcraft: One of the most overpowered mods of our time

And yet another nail in the coffin of the WGT pack for me.

So when Greg makes irreversible changes, it's okay, when Greg makes changes that can be reverted through the config it's okay, when mDiyo does the former it's not okay because he didn't include a way to disable the reversion, and then when mDiyo adds that config option it's still not okay.

Exactly, Greg has every right to make whatever changes he wants, I may disagree with those changes, but I won't say he has no right to make them, but by the same merit I extend the same to mDiyo, if Greg is allowed to change anything he wants about other mods and even vanilla Minecraft then...

Dartcraft: One of the most overpowered mods of our time

Unify ores? By this I assume you mean it will change the dozen or so types of copper into one single type of copper when they pass through, as an example?

Whether or not they're "exploits" is irrelevant, he forces the change regardless, which makes it no difference from what mDiyo did, both of them forced changes for the sake of balance with regards to their own mod, the only difference is one of them through a hissy fit when he got a taste of his...

Except when he does force it, of course, I'm not seeing an option anywhere in my 3.08 config to disable the nerf to tin and bronze buckets, and in the version when he did add an option to do so he decided to be a condescending ass about it instead. Please, tell me how it's different for Greg to...

Being personally affected by something has nothing to do with whether one is or even should be outraged by it. When I see a story on the news about some little girl I've never met from a family I have no ties to being murdered I'm most certainly going to be outraged by it regardless of whether...
