    Industrial Steam Engine

Railcraft steam engines can explode if their internal MJ storage fills up, which will happen if they cannot expend their full output. If the energy cell filled up there may have been nowhere for the power to go. It's safer to turn off engines when they are not needed, though with how temperature...

Question about redundency, and a second on some trees.

I based my reply on this: On an island of that size animals should have spawned on chunk creation if they could. They also should have spawned during the boat trip, unless something has gone buggy. I did some quick experiments with void ages, and I as unable to get animals to spawn on grass...

Question about redundency, and a second on some trees.

Animals will never spawn in an ocean biome, no matter how much grass there is. It makes lone island spawns less fun. Deserts and ice plains are also lifeless. Alpine, glacier, ice wasteland, mountain ridge and wasteland lack grass, and tundra is specified as lifeless on the wiki. Snow covered...

    Advanced tools disappointment

Shears function was likely added to the chainsaw to have electric shears without creating an entirely new tool. Saplings still drop when shearing, which may feel a bit exploitive, and leaves me with more leaves than I have a use for. I'd like to see a scythe mode added rather than the shears...

    Dirt.....

Dirt can also be obtained by placing mycelium (or grass) in a Factorization grinder. Useful if you go the moistener route but don't need mushrooms.

    Dirt.....

Peat is another option. Farming it consumes sand for bog earth and outputs dirt. Burning peat also produces ash, which can be used to make fertilizer if you ever manage to run out of apatite. The peat bog and arboretum form a symbiotic relationship, unless you have little use for so much solid fuel.

What're your favorite new discoveries in FTB?

The Forestry rainwater tank, Railcraft water tank, and cactus in a squeezer are alternative means of water collection. If you like beekeeping, try working your way up to the demonic line. They produce phosphor, which can be squeezed for lava.

    Insertion Pipe Placeholder

The previous design expanded to multiple targets. The iron pipe on the left serves only to connect the two pipe lines. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/Squigie23/Minecraft/2012-11-27_211432.png Here two iron pipes are used to keep items bouncing back and forth until they enter the...

    Insertion Pipe Placeholder

A bit overcomplicated. Recent pipe change makes them not drop items until they have exhausted possible routes. This loop design should be adaptable any need. Items entering the T-junction will choose a path randomly so insertion pipes would still be useful. To avoid having a glut of items in...

    Cobblegen

The Igneous Extruder from Thermal Expansion. Place lava and water inside and it will generate cobblestone, smooth stone or obsidian. Cobble is free, while smooth stone consumes a small amount of lava, and obsidian uses a bucket of each. Like all TE machines, it will output to any pipe or...

    Mass transport of liquids

If you have bees you could make wax capsules, or otherwise make tin cans. They normally act as one use buckets that stack, but if you use a liquid transposer it will return the empty containers.

playing FTB ith forestry, im initially stuck for power

As Meldiron said, peat can be farmed manually. You can also fuel a biogas engine with milk.
