What has changed? I thought that iron pipes had the same number of possible states as the number of pipes connected, ie. in the illustration above, 3 possible states, hence the issue? Has something changed? Please explain.

Seems to be a lot of conflicting info in this thread. Peppe said "This means only you can make new chests of that color combination", hence my question on how other players could make a fresh ender chest seeing as 3x white is the default colour combo. Your version does make more sense though.
