Wand of Equal trade again? fill your inventory with cobble and start equal trade clicking away on a twilight forest glacier. Since it works with stone I assume you'd get ice blocks instead of water blocks.

Could you use ice blocks? Fill it in with those and break them and they should propagate the source blocks. Otherwise if you dont care whether the blocks under the surface are source blocks you could do the trick mentioned by rhn above.

I've had a lapis shortage in my newest world so I've had to go caving/mining just to find it. All three times I've gone I've found 30-40 diamonds before finding ANY lapis. Its awesome.

Not to stir the pot but....I'm been amazed at how many diamonds I'm getting so early in my new unleashed world. I dont have any spreadsheets to prove it, but I have a lot of diamonds already--which I for one like. I dont play minecraft/ftb for the "challenge" of it.
