One thing I've consider with a few friends for a brutality mode (actually well, for our server) is completely disabling the recycler. This means a) no free stuff from scrapboxes, and b) you will need some sort of (varying degree of) valuable fuel for the massfab.

For going down, there's always the water break. If you have IC power somewhere near, you can use a magnetizer to go up at the cost of some redstone and a stack or so of iron for the pole.

There are wooden, metal, and stone posts. The metal ones can be dyed any of the 16 colors. Look in NEI for recipes for all of them. Maybe an interesting tip, mobs can't spawn on any of the posts, not even when they have tracks on them.

Simply drown them. Slimes cannot swim, so they will drown in a 3 blocks deep pool. This also automatically takes care of the splitting, as all offspring will just drown too. Use transposers or obsidian pipes to collect their balls.
