Mod Feedback Flaxbeard's Steam Power suggestion thread

What about making the steam heater smelt blocks and items that are in front of it, consuming less steam to do so then in a furnace so as to encourage the creation of more interesting multi-block ovens, automated with pistons and block placers/item droppers? Also, what about a way to convert...

Converters now require a crafted upgrade to be able to output more power then the current tier of tech you're at. These converters generally require advanced RoC materials: For example, level one requires ethanol crystals, and allows a converter to produce energy equivalent to a combustion...

For the extractor, or really just anything that isn't a grinder dedicated to making lubricant to feed its own hydrokinetic, a borer, or especially a bedrock breaker I would also reccomend just pouring more energy into one then making more. It's easier to do, less lag, and if you have the energy...

This is incorrect: Rotarycraft machines get exponentially less efficient as you increase power to individual machines. For example, the grinder only looses 3 seconds out of 45 every time you double the speed. Therefore, if you want to get the maximum efficiency per kW, simply make more machines...

Just thought of a use for the compressed canola seeds beyond just storage space: Right-clicking on a farmland plot with it will attempt to plant a 3x3 of canola centered on the farmland. If the attempt fails on a block, it instead drops a canola seed on that block.

This still implies that Reika is the only person capable of understanding and manipulating the mod's complexity, though. I understand that it's very well thought out, and that is indeed one of the reasons I like the mod. But even without bringing in other mods, there are some balance decisions...

Greg's ore processing actually already does have an advantage by providing more varied byproducts, but 5x ingots from ores is just impossible to balance around with the way Gregtech's balance is set up. Unless you made it easymode by making the macerator give 3x and later tiers of processing...

I can accept this, though I feel that Pyure put my opinion on it best with the quote, "Modders who are against modding...I have reduced patience for this." (Though, for me it's more being slightly irked then a loss of patience)

Pandering to idiots seems like the absolute worst direction he could go with this kind of mod, and that's also why I suggested the above no-modpack clause. Forcing the player to install a mod manually weeds out a lot of the idiots who can't simply drag a mod into a folder, and I would also add...

An addon does not change the quality, design, or consistency of RoC itself. The only time it has any affect at all is when it's actually installed, which would be entirely up to the user. I mean, by this logic, why doesn't Thermal Expansion break the design integrity and consistency of RoC by...

Mod Feedback [By Request] RotaryCraft Suggestions

Why would you shut down an add-on for modifying RoC behavior? It's not like people will be forced to use it, and if you're worried about false bug reports it could be made with a no-modpack clause, so anyone installing it would have to do so manually. I honestly can't think of any other...

Mod Feedback [By Request] RotaryCraft Suggestions

Why? The main thing that makes RoC not fit into GT is its ore processing, which is vastly superior while also being quite a bit cheaper, both to run and to make. Unless this can be done in an addon/in another mod, in which case I'll ask Greg to see if he's willing.

How about making the converter very inefficient at first with large amounts of power simply going to waste, and it has to be upgraded with IC2/GT components to increase efficiency? This would encourage people to go through the IC2/GT tech tree without the simple bypass of just spamming more...

I had an idea for a realistic and balanced form of fluid/gas voiding; Add a vant block which, when surrounded by water, will occasionally make a check for both biome and the number of contiguous water source blocks connected to it. (While also pathing through flow blocks) Additionally, when the...

Agreed, it feels too consistent. It would be nice to have some inconsistency before nukes. I also feel that electricraft is a really nice step in a direction that RoC needed, and would work beautifully with the above, though I have other issues with that particular mod... anything more then 4...

I'm aware that there are more uses then engine spam. Personally, I use them to combine a multi-directional clutch's multiple outputs into one, for the varying energy requirements of the extractor. Did not know that.

Well... Thinking about it a bit more, now I see your logic behind it. (To encourage using more difficult and finicky higher-tier energy generation, such as nuclear and fusion, instead of just spamming, for example, jet turbines, right?) It does solve that rather nicely I suppose, though it still...

So, I just played around with the anti-engine-spam mechanics of shaft junctions. It seems, to me, rather inelegant and band-aid-ish, given that it has no real basis on the physics that RoC bases itself on. It seems like a much better solution to the problem would be to nerf steam...
