I don't see it being too much of a problem. In some cases it makes sense - such as the Chest, which takes up most of a block. Pretty much limits you to 1 pixel thick panels. RP2's microblocks not working with Buildcraft pipes, and by extension Thermal Expansion ones, seemed more of an issue...

Stairs and parkour really aren't "fast travel" methods. Also, hidden pop-out stairs would add a bit to the exterior. If you're looking to be compact, jet packs with various recharge stations throughout the base might be the best bet.

Gregtech also creates Sapphire and Ruby spawns, based off the config files. Emerald is now in-game officially which makes me wonder if Eloramm is using that for her recipes instead.
