If your just going for a super easy armour aspect rubber boots give four of that aspect but if you alembics then it really doesnt matter for crafting at least.

As stated above the hatch block is what allows for incoming/outgoing product flow. If you place one on the bottom with a pipe it'll auto eject as well. Buildcraft may be dumb but if you add some gates to them with some pipe wire they tend to work rather well.
