    Obsidian pipes and gates.

Well you could very easily use gates to activate an engine powering an obsidian pipe, thereby increasing the range that it will pick items up from. But I don't personally know of a way to prevent an obsidian pipe from picking up items that land directly on it - gates or otherwise.

Forum Game - The Ban Game

I<3GregTech is banned for making me feel even worse about my self-imposed GT exile. And for having an avatar that I don't even know what it is. (Iridium?)

Forum Game - The Ban Game

I<3GregTech is banned for reminding me that I'm stuck in the DW20 pack and too lazy to start a new world with GT in it.

    Naturally generated skyscraper

I like that one. I may have to try playing a world like that sometime. :D That would also be a good way to get me to calm down when it comes to mining materials way in excess of what I would ever use. Heh.

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

If you mean what I think you mean a screenshot of your setup, as well as the sorting machine GUI, would probably be the quickest way to tell people what they need to know in order to help you. Simply placing covers down should not have affected how your sorting machine paints its items for any...

    Stupid questions regarding machines.(Pulv, etc)

Ah, that's what I was thinking of! I knew there was something special about where iron chests would open...

    Stupid questions regarding machines.(Pulv, etc)

Ah, well there you go. I was right to give a disclaimer about the iron chest thing I guess. :P Glad to know that I was right about the ender chests though. Hopefully that's helpful to the OP.

    Stupid questions regarding machines.(Pulv, etc)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think chests from the Iron Chests mod can be opened even with blocks above them. Which chest would be cheapest depends on what materials you have the most of (copper chest, iron, silver, etc.). If that doesn't work, I'm quite confident that ender chests can be...

    Looking forward to 1.6

Those would be super helpful for a build that I'm working on right now. But whenever the day comes that I'm playing on 1.6 I don't think I'll want to do it over again. Oh well, I'll just have to improvise. Regardless, I can see those being great for a number of builds. I'm sure I'll be making...

The lag - I hate it. Tips for lag reduction?

Well, that can happen - it happened to me on my old laptop. I double-placed blocks around 25% of the time on there, and that was in vanilla. But yes, it was essentially a toaster. My frame rate was always in the single digits. So if the computer itself is the problem in the OP's case, I agree...

    Looking forward to 1.6

Well that's very possible. But in that case, saying that we are or aren't "supposed to" be able to do something is a pretty meaningless statement. What we are "supposed to" be able to do becomes entirely subjective at that point.

    Boilers woes

For a 36HP boiler and 18 industrial steam engines, 9 liquiduct connections will do. At that point they don't need to be in output mode to work. But if you want even fewer connections, by all means (never tested that myself...). Placing the engines directly on the boiler, as Ako mentioned, is...

    Looking forward to 1.6

? EDIT: Or by "normal" did you mean not having a timer? What designates that as "normal"? Especially if the topic at hand is automation? Regardless, while I maintain that a LOT of amazing things can be accomplished with vanilla mechanics, I would never contest that far, far more automation can...

    Looking forward to 1.6

You would be shocked how many things you can automate in vanilla. With your sugarcane piston farm example for instance - a timer requires nothing more than a little redstone dust and a couple redstone torches. Hoppers are now the obvious choice for collecting the sugarcane, but before that you...

    Liquid Tesseract

Well if the tank was indeed initialized (ie. you could actually open the GUI) and the only thing that you changed was to switch to an iron tank, then that's very bizarre. I'm glad it's working now at least!
  16. S

    Liquid Tesseract

Hmmm, that would imply that your tank was the problem all along - not the tesseracts. Did you initialize the tank by right-clicking on the valve?

    Boilers woes

How are you getting the steam from the boiler to each of the engines? That's a crucial factor.

Lets See Some Bases! Give Us a Tour!

I agree. I can't wait to see what the more mature Xycraft involves! As for the textures - I agree that they don't fit into the typical Minecraft style. But I'd say that's a good thing! If you ask me, Minecraft should lend itself to all sorts of building/decorating styles. Xycraft is pushing for...

    Easiest way to start out?

Ah, gotcha. The reason I recommend machines from Thermal Expansion is that they can be configured to output and receive items automatically. Other machines require engines, timers, gates, or other contraptions to move items around. Basically, first look up the pulverizer. This will take raw...

    Easiest way to start out?

Well, using their machines would definitely make it faster. But I personally prefer to be able to say that I did everything myself. So I know if I was in your shoes I would want to go solo; otherwise if you do manage to catch up all the others will say that you were only able to do so because...
