i think i read somewhere that the original reason was because she couldnt get ahold of azanor for permission to include it fully so she included it in the way it currently is as a sort of compromise until she could get his permission and its possible she has just forgotten about it

i think your best bet is to contact King Lemming the guy behind Thermal Expansion im not sure but i think that the configurable sides thing is a api thing he made that he simply hooks into with his machines into and he might be willing to share if you ask him but im not sure still if anyone...
