    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

@keybounce Windows to linux does not have any changes as far as I am aware, so I assume Mac is the same. Click Play Offline to get the screen I shared above. I am using MultiMC 5 version 0.42 for lin64. --edit because I really shouldn't make a new post for this since we are off-topic...

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Does anyone want to help develop an alternative to Minecraft? I have some ideas for one, but it will require a lot of work, as I would shy away from voxel-based building in favor of something better.

Testing in ubuntu: I am pretty sure that is what you are looking for. You do have to confirm a Minecraft account, but I have played with unregistered names plenty of times before.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Let's just continue with 1.7.10 and 1.8 and pretend that we never heard these rumors. And possibly prepare to just stick with 1.2.5/1.6.4/1.7.10/1.8 for a very long time. Until some other game comes around with a great modding community.

    Buying Minecraft From Mojang

You are right. This is really just conjecture. We don't even know for sure if this will actually happen. It would be nice if the community could purchase Minecraft from Mojang, but it is unlikely. I will just continue helping with E.R.A.M. and then most likely start my own game. If someone...

    Buying Minecraft From Mojang

How about we start a kickstarter for "Minecraft 2.0" with a $1,000,000 goal or something like that. The 1mil will be for purchasing the IP from Mojang. Believe it or not, 36 games have actually raised more than 1 million on kickstarter (based on their stats). I personally hope this is Notch...

    Buying Minecraft From Mojang

@DoomSquirter To pull this off we are going to need community support. Youtubers will be the best thing for that.

    Buying Minecraft From Mojang

@DoomSquirter This is why a part of the modding community should buy Minecraft. Mojang isn't really that supportive of mods, and updating Minecraft has not been their priority as of late. Can someone ask Notch how much he would sell Minecraft for if it was the community buying it?

I think one of us was being serious and the other wasn't. As it is my computer can't play flash so I don't know what that video is.

    Buying Minecraft From Mojang

How much should we offer? Notch is more likely to sell to the community than microsoft given his views about selling to big faceless corporations. We'll need a few things before we can seriously consider doing this: 1. A development team. The forge team or a custom team. 2. An actual...

Where should we put a thread to discuss buying Minecraft from Mojang?

Small thought: Why doesn't the modding community buy Minecraft from Mojang?

You can prevent an exploit by keeping the code for the login top-secret. With Forge being the only real worker in deobfuscated code that could be done. I am putting the agreement I have developed so far in a spoiler.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

@PODonnell What if people like Direwolf20 and other Youtubers spread the word about the kickstarter? The agreement I have come up with so far actually includes protections against things like malicious mods and piracy. Think about Curseforge. If we use something like that to manage mods and keep...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Do we have to outbid Microsoft? I think I figured out how to keep everyone, including Microsoft, happy. After Microsoft purchases Mojang a group of developers(from the modding community) approaches Microsoft to buy the rights to the personal computer version of Minecraft, and only the personal...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

If they do that then you will see large numbers of alternatives spring up. And I don't care how big you are, there will be some that will ignore a cease and desist order, and it does cost money to make a lawsuit. Personally I think that if Microsoft does anything like that, we should make Forge...

MultiMC 5 has had offline mode name changing for about a month now. So yes, 1.7.10 will work no matter what Microsoft does.
