    Welp, elo's alive

Oh, so you fight to have your contribution honored but dismiss the work of someone else. It's cool. As I said, these discussions bore me now. Take a moment to offer up and relish the last word, because I've got nothing further to add.

    Welp, elo's alive

I have my own projects that don't involve adding to the pile of packs that really only serve to dilute the community. The real community. Not the one where we declare other peoples' work 'obsolete' because something more shiny nabbed our attention. I don't care about pragmatic programmers or...

    Welp, elo's alive

Sorry, brosef. All this talk of eco-systems leaves me thinking you've been hitting the bong a little too hard. There are plenty of people who like RP2, and who feel no need whatsoever to update our mods every time Mojang updates MC, and feel no need to muse philosophically about the...

    Welp, elo's alive

That's all well and good, but don't talk about community anything if you're so quick to talk about someone's work as obsolete just because you can mash together a half dozen other mods to achieve 95% of the functionality. Community is about respecting everyone's contribution, not just...

    Most Efficient Start

It's not so much philosophical as practical. Testing everything as a project isn't practical. Testing something and seeing how you feel about it is. And if you don't really like it, then next time you'll test something else. Testing doesn't have to be researching and building and...

I've had my power plant set up to cover my needs for ages. I count ingots by the stack of metal blocks. If I drop below a stack of diamonds on hand I run a quarry. There are mods in the current Ultimate pack that I haven't used at all, and I just finished the structural components of a 70...

Better Than A Let's Play (Monster) - It Doesn't Have to Hurt

Added episode 32, featuring the assembly of the mega-creeper.

Okay, let's just back up a bit. As someone else pointed out, there is no 'best'. There are things that work and things that don't work and then after tinkering a bit with each of them you decide which one you like the most. That's the 'best'. For you. Nobody else can tell you what you're...

    Rage Quit

Rage quit used to mean having what amounted to a temper tantrum and leaving a group in an online game. It's always sad to see poignant expressions lose their meaning. I saw a post a while back from some kid and his brother stating they "rage quit" Minecraft when they heard the new enderman...

Excessive Lag Only in part of my Base

Now I remember where a lot of my own performance issues with the ultimate pack started: the Voxel mods. As soon as I disabled all of the Voxel mods (and added Rei's Minimap to make up some of the functionality) a lot of my fps issues went away.

Excessive Lag Only in part of my Base

I don't think you're keeping track of the context. You stated that Minecraft doesn't use multi-threading. I pointed out that it can/does if it's using OptiFine. That's the end of the story. I didn't say multi-threading was the problem or the solution. I just commented on your statement about...

Excessive Lag Only in part of my Base

Change the chunk loading from multi-core to default in the config and see if that solves your problem.

Excessive Lag Only in part of my Base

It depends on your settings, the size of your facilities. Every little bit helps. Flying at a moderate altitude can really demonstrate just how unfortunately ineffective MC chunk loading really can be. It's the reason I don't use any shader mods...they can make the game look quite nice if you...

    OptiFine adds multi-core chunk loading.

    Quarry vs. hand digging

When I'm mining, I'm gathering resources and then when I'm not mining, I'm usually consuming those resources. When I'm running a quarry, I'm gathering resources all the time. I saw someone rage at a well known youtuber in their video comment section, accusing them of being a cheater because...

    Builder skills

First step is to stop thinking in terms of squares and rectangles. If you want your structures to look interesting, start thinking in terms of angles and curves. A plain cylinder standing on end is immediately more interesting than a box. Give that cylinder some structural details and all of a...

How to build 800+ Coke Oven setups semi automated??

As others have said, use turtles. You can learn enough about LUA to build an unlimited quantity of coke ovens in a fraction of the time it would take you to build them by hand, and you'll have developed a valuable new skill in the process. Turtles: the other other other white meat, only...

Will be gregtech in the future FTB packs?

As someone who has always had GregTech disabled and thus no particular dog in this fight, the dissent for his approach to 'balance' appears to be growing. He seems to be forcing more and more people into a 'love me or leave me' position and he may find that more and more people choose the...

    Stuck in Thaumcraft. Bees!

My first attempt at Thaumcraft research also left me with a gold chest half full of incomplete research pages until I thought about it for a little while and arrived at the first rule of Thaumcraft research: Never pull incomplete research pages out of the table. Whether it's for something you...
