If they want to sell the merch, than we are exactly the PC community they want- one where each member is active for a long time and feels connected to the game. Modding can triple the time a player stays with minecraft.

This Reeally worries me. More broadly, I don't think the problem is that microsoft is more/less evil than other big corporation. I think the selling decision is bad* because, by the nature of being bought by a corporation, the top decision-making decided solely for the shareholders profit...

Minecraft, gameplay-wise, is great just by itself. Any open-source alternative will need a basic "World, player, mobs, and what they do" game. Copy minecraft precisely? Make cubic chunks? Leave out the nether? Keep floating blocks? Use different mobs? Take some inspiration from TFC? There won't...

It doesn't matter if 90% of the already-payed existing player base disappear if the 10% who are left are paying more. We are more of a liability, since we've stopped paying.

Microsoft would do everything they can to make the game more profitable. They could charge extra for older/newer versions. They could add a monthly subscription fee. They could demand a Microsoft account and/or automatically make you one from the mojang account (And probably charge you...

Of course none of the damage so far is from Microsoft take-over of mojang- they haven't done that yet.

I just hope they won't merge the mojang account to their own type. I'm still mad that my phone can't properly work if I'm not connected to a service I've never agreed to have anyway just because I've made an e-mail account a few years back, and even then it is forced into a social network design...
