Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

If they want to sell the merch, than we are exactly the PC community they want- one where each member is active for a long time and feels connected to the game. Modding can triple the time a player stays with minecraft.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

If there was any time for some consequence-free panic, it's now! Any other time it might offend developers, modders, youtubers, or anyone else we don't want to quit on us, but who cares what microsoft thinks of a panicked community?

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

I remember from somewhere that Microsoft has announced that they continue with a 1.9 update before a 2 update (Which is probably when the fundamental changes are going to happen) Edit: edited per McJty's point. I remember reading that in one of the announcements, so i might just banged my head...

Ever since i had read about it in an addictive site, I've wanted to say: Minecraft is RUINED FOREVER!!!

[grumpy voice] It's not blocky enough.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

On another note, I'm personally sick and tired of the mineX and Ycraft naming conventions. We need to give alternatives names more solid than minecraft puns.

if the corporation with a community that loves it is the Apple and applefans make it's community, you might take from that the exceptions could be even worse.

The difference between conspiracy theory and genuine worry is the you accept a conspiracy theory as absolute truth, while you worry something might be right. 99% of the pessimism on this thread would be wrong, but it's the 1% that happens to be right that's a problem. Even if their not going to...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

    A. Notch was already really rich. He always had enough retire, and didn't show sign of great greed (You can leave pretty well just from a few tens of millions, after all.). Selling out to avoid responsibility and internet harassment is not exactly the optimal solution, given the responsibility...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

This Reeally worries me. More broadly, I don't think the problem is that microsoft is more/less evil than other big corporation. I think the selling decision is bad* because, by the nature of being bought by a corporation, the top decision-making decided solely for the shareholders profit...

There is still the underlying pessimism-driving question of where Microsoft are getting back these 2.5 Billion dollars.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Minecraft, gameplay-wise, is great just by itself. Any open-source alternative will need a basic "World, player, mobs, and what they do" game. Copy minecraft precisely? Make cubic chunks? Leave out the nether? Keep floating blocks? Use different mobs? Take some inspiration from TFC? There won't...

It doesn't matter if 90% of the already-payed existing player base disappear if the 10% who are left are paying more. We are more of a liability, since we've stopped paying.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Microsoft would do everything they can to make the game more profitable. They could charge extra for older/newer versions. They could add a monthly subscription fee. They could demand a Microsoft account and/or automatically make you one from the mojang account (And probably charge you...

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Of course none of the damage so far is from Microsoft take-over of mojang- they haven't done that yet.

I just hope they won't merge the mojang account to their own type. I'm still mad that my phone can't properly work if I'm not connected to a service I've never agreed to have anyway just because I've made an e-mail account a few years back, and even then it is forced into a social network design...

The thing is, why would notch, who's already a multi-millionaire, be that tempted to give up his values for microsoft's money? He's not an everyman being offered ludicrous amounts of money- unless he has some secret alter-life of extreme luxury and control, he has basically as much money as he...

    Tech Mods: Missing the Point

If the block implies something is being done, without it "really" being done, it's a magic block. Of course, nothing is really being done in videogames- it is just very organized and well-done roleplaying and make-belief being powered by computer simulation. Everything in minecraft is a magic...
