Well I've managed to put together a 1.5.1 mod pack with about 69 mods, haven't run into any problems post config prep although I didn't give the config too much of my time considering I was just too eager to finally getting to play. Few mods left out, such as Mystcraft, never really find myself...

Well updating my java version did indeed seem to have helped at first but I just got the exact same error log as before... Just double checked my java again, it is indeed the latest version.

Are you sure all the files that are unpacked after running the .exe are in the same folder/desktop? Otherwise, perhaps you had a connection problem with the ftb servers when installing the specific mod pack.

A possibility is that you're putting too much strain on your graphics driver, have you tried a x32 or default texture pack to see if this fixes your problem? The unspecified section is indeed much larger than normal, for me it is at 1% right now. I googled a bit but couldn't seem to find any...

The FTB launcher has no influence on your fps in-game, try comparing the mods between the two mod packs to single out a specific mod that could be causing this lag. Vyron has provided a sound link to a possible solution for High-res texture pack users, so make sure to give that a try to.
