Since Multiplayer and Singleplayer are now the same, that fix would probably work for you. Ask the server owner to remove your <player>.dat file as it will probably be a stuck item. This will wipe your inventory but should clear your problem.

Have you added any other mods or changed any mods in the Mindcrack pack?

I'm being really thick here, what even appears in the server.txt file? I'm sure I've never seen it.

At a guess you'd probably find the blocks would turn into something else possibly sandstone, but maybe something from another mod, it depends on the ID configs I guess.

If you go to the Options tab in the launcher you can change the directory it installs to there.

Ah missed that oops, yeah looks like a redesign of the launchers code too, but since modded 1.6 won't be for a very long time I don't think this is a major concern right now.

I'm pretty sure (but could be completely wrong) Dinnerbone just means that 1.6 won't be accessible through the old vanilla launcher, since FTB uses it's own launcher and not the vanilla one this probably won't be a problem.

You are probably coming a cropper of the vanilla mechanic in which hostile mobs despawn when a player isn't near by, unfortunately there isn't a way around this...
