Yeah, the Tier 5 Blaze farm is a much easier way to farm blaze rods than using the minimum stone. Especially for those who still find EE3 too cheaty to use (MindCrack).

I need Optifine to even be able to play any of the FTB packs. But my processor is getting a bit old. Anyone have any luck with the multi-core aspect of Optifine? When ever I turn it on it speeds things up a good deal, but then I get loads of graphical glitches, so I turn it off again.

Ooo... I forgot about the altered heat values of the charcoal. The last time I ran a test charcoal and coal had the same heat value and you had to burn 16 before the Hobbyist pulled ahead.

The Hobbyist's is much, much, much, much, more efficient but only if used continuously. It is horribly inefficient if used in short bursts. The TE steam engine provides better "instant on" short term use power. I like the TE one in the beginning until I can put my first Energy Cell together...

Bah, the BuildCraft quarry and even the simplest of RP2 Frame Miners blow away manual mining by such a large margin it isn't worth the time. GregTech should make a quarry upgrade or something that allows you to Silk Touch auto mine because his mod is the one that gets the most out of raw blocks...

Yeah, but the cost of AE pushes it to much later in the game, where LP could be started quite early and expanded as you advanced. It seems to me AE can't really do anything until you have enough infrastructure to build everything in one go. I like to start with a couple little things and build up.
