Figured it out. By extracting the coal out of the hopper receiving it, and sending it to a second crafty crate making blocks , I've eliminated backlog, and I now have double the production of blocks.

Obsidian pipe to suck up the dropped items, then send them through another crafty crate making coal blocks so there's no backlog. Good idea.

Something else that's happening is the crafted items are being dropped out of the bottom of the crafty crate, onto the chute below, where it sits because the chute can't be gravity fed. I thought of using emerald extraction pipes so I could whitelist the coal but rather then being extracted and...

it didnt like having the hopper right below it. the hopper was pulling the coal out of it before it could be turned into the block.

omg it finally works.... crop sticks stay in place, the plants dont break, essence goes where its supposed to go. so im going to keep it unpowered until all the seeds have spread throughout the whole farm.
