Pumping out a certain area in an ocean (FTB Ultimate pack)

Are you using buildcraft pumps or redpower pumps? Buildcraft pumps actually work from the outside of their effective radius in towards the center, and aren't particularly sensitive to the geometry of the blocks surrounding the water they're supposed to be pumping. Redpower pumps are much...

    Need Help:Fast Travel Methods

Arcane levitators are great, and they're stackable, too. Each extra one you place underneath the first adds another 10 blocks to the height they will raise you to. I've stacked 4 of them before, but I'm not aware of an upper limit. They're also usable to slowly lower yourself downwards, if you...

    Applied Energistics using Assembly Table

Just place an interface underneath (or adjacent, or on top of) the assembly table, and it will provide the materials and take the output. No need for any additional buses or chests. You will need to tell the assembly table to actually craft the processors, though. Just request a processor via...

    Advanced Solar Panel Crafting!!

Well, technically magma crucibles allow you to turn netherrack into lava, and putting that lava into a magmatic engine gives you more energy back than you used to make the lava in the first place. So it's not infinite lava, you're essentially burning netherrack for a net of 10000 or so MJ per...

    Crafting recipes that you hate

Pistons, IC2 circuits, BC gears, and overclockers are the worst offenders, but RP2 block breakers are in the running, too. AE recipes aren't too bad, though, since one of the first things I want to do when I start getting into AE is set up an autocrafting chamber. Once you make a pattern for...

    GT Distillation Tower

Given the tech level that's necessary to craft one of these things, I don't think it will ever be anything other than a "fun" project. If it took reinforced casings instead of advanced casings, I think it could be a semi-viable way to make a midgame shift to renewable MJ power.

    GT Distillation Tower

Yeah, using this for EU generation is out of the question, but the biofuel is pretty good for MJ generation - 5.0 MJ/t for 40000 ticks (200,000 MJ total per bucket) in a combustion engine, and 32k heat in a liquid fueled boiler.

Is there an objectively best power source?

Granted, but your substituting the massive copper investment with a much larger investment of time in breeding the damn things and all of the other infrastructure necessary to make a superbee and alvearys.

    GT Distillation Tower

Considering Gregorius has liquid support on some of his other machines, like the industrial centrifuge, industrial grinder, and a couple of his generators, it's kind of surprising he doesn't have it here. Granted, it's not too difficult to automate a liquid transposer, but based on a little...

    GT Distillation Tower

I was just poking around in NEI, looking for more stuff to add to my factory, and I came across this little gem. Apparently it can be used to make biofuel at a 2:1 ratio, which seems pretty snazzy. The only problem is that it requires 16 advanced machine casings to go with it (which translates...

Is there an objectively best power source?

I agree with a lot of the sentiment here that nuclear reactors need a buff. Make no mistake, they're awesome, and they can generate a ton of EU without requiring much in the way of fuel, but their upfront costs are just backbreaking, compared to the energy you can get out of them. Most...

    Making Steel

Yeah, I've been using refined iron and two coal dust without any issues.

    Advanced Solar Panel Crafting!!

Long story short, no. The hard recipes in the config refer to the hybrid and ultimate hybrid solar panels, not the advanced one. If you're dead set on powering your base with solar, your best option is just to make a lot of solar panels. You can also remove advanced solar panels from the pack...

    Advanced Solar Panel Crafting!!

Which is why I like advanced solars - you build them with uu matter and iridium, instead of duct taping progressively larger quantities of solar panels together. Which also has the advantage of encouraging players to diversify their power sources in the early and mid game, rather than just...

    Advanced Solar Panel Crafting!!

If you're looking for some easy starting EU, then you should be looking at things like generators and geothermal generators. Advanced solar panels are end game content, and cost more energy to produce than they'll generate in the first few days they're active. That doesn't even account for the...

More efficient/completely safe nuclear reactor setups?

Hm. They're not turning out to be as cheap as I thought. Cooling down a 60k water cooling cell takes 768,000 EU and 300 seconds. Cooling a 360k He cell takes 4,992,000 EU and 1,950 seconds, and cooling a 360k NaK cell takes 3,840,000 EU and 1,500 seconds, while the recipes for the smaller...

    help with ae

If you keep a charged redstone energy cell nearby, that's not really an issue.

More efficient/completely safe nuclear reactor setups?

Oh, man, I hadn't even considered using routers to automate hybrid reactors - that's brilliant! Just stick some item filters on the ones pulling the re-enriched/depleted cells, and have an input router and export bus dedicated to each fuel slot.

More efficient/completely safe nuclear reactor setups?

I haven't had a chance to tool around with it yet, but while I was setting up my tungstensteel crafting the other day I noticed that the gregtech vacuum freezer can be used to repair reactor system components. The energy draw looks pretty modest, too. Has anyone looked into the feasibility of...

New player.. where to go next?

The Thermal Expansion Wiki has a lot of good information - it's worth checking out. http://thermalexpansion.wikispaces.com/ One thing you have to be mindful of with conduits is that they can be set to either input or output. Right clicking on them with a wrench at the point where they...
