The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

They haven't disabled your access to the game. You always have the option of removing or downgrading the offending mod. If you elect to downgrade it, then you don't even lose access to your world. Again, I'm not saying that I approve of Greg's actions (or Mdiyo's, for that matter). I'm just...

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

Then your OEM must have hacked Windows. Because it doesn't allow that sort of thing (in 64-bit) out of the box. (It's not hard to do, it's just replacing one file. But it's still technically illegal and interestingly somewhat analogous to the current situation.)

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

Clearly, you have not tried to install an unsigned (or signed with anything except the official Microsoft seal of approval) driver in 64-bit Windows then. But they DID NOT disable the game. They disabled the game from running X and Y at the same time. Remove either of these, the game works...

Throwing an exception, which is then caught and logged and triggers a graceful shutdown, is not a crash. Especially when it occurs during startup and does not lead to world corruption.

Any way of getting a lot of saplings/Biomass

Does that work? Last time I tried it the XL biome saplings wouldn't work in forestry machines. (That was way in the early days of 1.4 though, before tree breeding existed.)

It won't let you log in if you have two mods that are trying to use the same block id. Or if one requires a newer version of Forge than you have installed. It's not much different in action, albeit somewhat different in principle. Maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here (again, I've...

    AE Molecular Assembler Chamber

The way I've been using AE so far, I haven't seen the point of adding more than one CPU to the chamber. There just aren't enough times when I'm crafting big orders that only use crafting table recipes.

So? As long as he didn't corrupt your world in the process (and nothing that I have heard suggests that this was the case), I don't see a problem with this. Granted, it would annoy me and make me not want to use one or both of the mods involved, but the mod author is fully within their rights to...

No, that's not how it works. Forget the term "crash", that's a loaded word that's distorting the issue. What Greg did was to make it so that if his mod detected something that it didn't like while it was starting up, it stopped and said "oh dear, your config is messed up, please fix that"...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

Yes, I added a restriction tube and wooden chest right next to the retriever. It works well -- occasionally items will go into it and it then prioritises pulling out from that before the barrels, so the chest never gets full, although items sometimes circle a couple of times (mostly when I start...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

Just because "why the heck not, I have the resources... and fabricators, so it's not a pain in the butt" I made 12 more upgraded recyclers. Had to upgrade them to MV to get them running smoothly, but I was able to drop the timer to 1.1s and now the system keeps up nicely. Woo! I'm using a...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

Mostly I like seeing the items whizzing by, and I don't like destroying stuff, even when I do have basically infinite supply of it. (Also not all the cobble is going to recycle, I have some of it going to an induction furnace to make a steady supply of stone for direct use or turning into...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

No, the timer affects how fast the barrels empty. ie. I was actually getting more than 64 stacks per 100ish seconds -- the recyclers were processing 1 stack per 4.2s, so my total quarry input must have been ~90 stacks in that time, or about 1 stack per 1.2s. I currently have 4 recyclers with...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

It looks like at the moment it's taking about 16 seconds for one recycler to process one stack of cobble. So I tried setting the timer to 4.2s and it does seem much more reliable. There's still the odd occasion where something (usually dirt) will end up backstuffing into the wrong barrel, but it...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

I'm not sure what you mean. The barrel buffer is on the input side of the retriever. The retriever is the thing that's pulling items out of the barrels. There aren't any buffers between the retriever and the recyclers -- I was just hoping that the retriever would be smart enough to not pull...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

I have four recyclers each with 4-6 overclockers. I do have a superquarry though (was running at 100 MJ/t), and while I've turned that off for the moment I've been playing with a frame quarry, which is even faster than that. That's exactly what I have though. It goes sorting machine ->...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

Nuts. Tried it but there's still a problem. The retriever will pull more than will actually fit into the recyclers (basically it's not allowing for the travel time of the items, so keeps pulling until the items actually arrive), and the items will bounce back to the bottom of the barrels... and...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

That was the design I meant when I talked about "an input filter on every barrel". It seems like it should work but it's going to be a bit awkward to squeeze into the space I have. But it's sounding like the best option so far, still. Yes, and I've very recently created a new age for just...

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

As I said, I'm using DW20, so sadly no TubeStuff. I did consider managers, but as you said they're quite spendy -- and I'd need one per barrel plus one for the other end too.

    Recycle Buffering with Barrels

I currently have a fairly basic recycling setup for excess quarried materials (RP2 filter into tubes into IC2 recyclers). This was keeping up fairly well for quite a while -- I just needed to toss in an extra recycler or an overclocker occasionally as I started producing more power and was able...
