As I said, I've never used it. Or ComputerCraft, for example. I feel like mods like that look and feel completely out of place in a game like Minecraft.

Vanilla. No contest. It seems to me that Highlands used to not add biomes but, rather, made everything more mountainous. I would love that. Of course that could just be related to my failing memory.

Ahhh... Can't say that I've ever crafted it with so many creepers and bats in the nether dropping it. My next best guess would be Metallurgy.

Thaumcraft? I know tc has a way to make it, just can't recall the recipe...

I'm not using any of those on my current playthrough. I do wish I had the BC tank, though.

If you don't want easy just don't make power armor and any of a number of other items. These items are designed to make content easy, even trivial.
