I'm currently playing with just Buildcraft, Railcraft and Thaumcraft and really loving it. I think Buildcraft and Rotarycraft have the coolest looking pipes, I just wish RotaryCraft's machines looked more Steampunk as I really feel like that mod is *meant for* Steampunk.

I tried ATG (in vanilla) for the first time last night and that is now clearly, far and away, my favorite. It may be a bit of a hike to find cactus but I'm finding some drier stuff now so I must be close...

Direwolf20 does the only mod spotlights worth watching, that I have seen. As I mentioned earlier, though, I'm not into his LPs.

I've only ever come across one Hungry Node. It was on the surface of a snowy biome and it was obvious as I approached it as particle effects could be seen rising from the surrounding blocks and being sucked inward. It could be that the particle effects were so obvious because of the biome...

I wouldn't use it. At most I would integrate it, whole, into my base design.

If I'm using vanilla tools I think I'd prefer to start with Ars Magica for that tool repairing block.

I really like some of the chisel mod blocks, especially some of the ones that are crafted with an iron ingot surrounded by stone (futuristic?) I think spruce looks really good with vanilla stone bricks or chisel mod limestone and a lot if mods lately are adding decorative blocks and...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the mod creator (mdiyo?) is no longer working on TiCo so don't expect a 1.7 version.

I get bored pretty quickly which is why for a year, or more, I play only in Hardcore mode. I think I prefer the promise of new beginnings. I'm the same way with irl jobs, lovers, apartments...

It took me awhile to figure it out, too, honestly.

Hover your mouse over Overlay (I believe, not in front of my gaming pc) and then just scroll through the various overlay using your mouse wheel.

That was totally my immediate response when I saw the reaction my original post had -- that I should have gone even deeper. ;)
