I don't think the node rewards will generate a hungry node when placed. I tested placing over 1000 of them and not once did I get a hungry node. So either they have to be spawned in with a special command or the odds are really really low of getting one.

Sifting dust, witch farm, blood tree farm, laser drill, ender quarry, go to nether and mine nether redstone, villager trading. So many ways to get redstone in mass quantities.

Have you tried to "wrench" the ghost block with a crescent hammer? Try removing the conduit that connects to the ghost block. Maybe try to break it in creative mode. Otherwise, your only option may be to use mcedit to try to remove the offending block.

Actually the reactor code does not care if it is "still", "source" or "flowing" so long as it is touching the rod it will cool it. If you can find a way for a single bucket to touch all 4 walls of every rod from top to bottom then it should work, but I highly doubt it is possible with a 7x7...
