Optifine is very glitchy on a large amount of people, its better to leave it out, so that the people who actually need it can install it themselves.

Mystcraft ages are pretty wonky with ore gen, you could always try one of those if you are in serious need. They spawn all the different types in from all mods terrain gen.

I run much better without optifine, and without the glitches it brings the game is much easier to play! :D

I recommend placing your quarries in a flat plains age with a dense ores symbol and 4 charged, if you have the option of course. If not, exploring the nether is a great idea.

I use those to power my place and forget quarries, they work very well and I've never had energy problems. The only draw back is you cant boost your engines with circuits otherwise the draw is too much.

I would think it would mess up the modpack, as I consider TFC to be a complete overhaul, rather then a mod.

Yeah, you can copy the new world save files from the multimc directory over to your Feed The Beast directory.
