U have to use them to level them up. There will be a counter showing how far to go the boost and that gives it another mining lol. Also u can attach a mob head to copper picks to boost it instantly. Each time u upgrade the pick to a new metal it resets and starts counting again for the boost...

No it penetrates the gas but once u pick up the water source block the gas fills right back in. And u still get zapped by the lightning. Even thru a dirt wall lol

the mini creepers are an unpleasant addition...u cant make swords in the beginning til u can make a smeltery- but u can make flint knives

I pour water on portals to close them. be careful in them if he breaks the portal and ur inside it ive read u cant get out again
