Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's pretty much just "set and forget." All you need to do is provide it with fuel (a lava-powered engine has basically infinite fuel in the Nether) and tracks.

This is why I'm still using my ethanol in combustion engines rather than in a boiler. I even wrote up a nifty ComputerCraft program that turns my engines off when my Redstone Energy Cells are full, and turns them back on when the power gets low. I try not to waste a single MJ.

You can set up an ME Interface to keep a certain amount of stuff stocked within it, then have an Inventory Turtle keep track of what's in the Ender Chest and pull items out of the interface to restock the chest as needed. Or you might be able to pull off something with an ME Bridge peripheral...

To be fair, this is probably entirely Xycraft's fault. I'm playing 1.5.2 currently (obviously without Xycraft) and caves are much less colorful than they were when I was playing FTB Ultimate.
