Are you trying to run FTB from a USB drive or something? Open the launcher and go to "OPTIONS" and make sure you have a valid "install folder..." location.

The Forge team tried putting a workaround fix in several versions ago but it doesn't seem like it helped, as far as I know it is definitely a Vanilla issue but only vastly more apparent with this modpack. Hopefully the issue is taken care of when the 1.5 rendering engine update(rewrite) happens.

People mean you only have as many princesses as you originally harvest from hives. If you were somehow to lose all your hives and all except 1 princess, you would be stuck with 1 princess. Unless of course you used a Swarmer block but those princesses eventually die off.

You can always make reneweable princesses from the non-renewable ones though... I wonder if that counts (although they do expire).
