Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Looking at how fast Sponge seems to be taking off at the moment, this can go very quickly once a critical mass of perceived "important people" is reached. Judging from the twitterings of Lex, cpw, Pahimar, CJ etc. this is possible; on the other hand they might also take the opportunity to leave...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Sure they might not want to monetize mods, but unfortunately I can't imagine them keeping Mojang's lax EULA in favor of what they have on all of their other game "just because we don't care".

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

I agree 100%. But how that means that FTB and modded MC can live on like now is beyond me.

That seems to be true. Almost every statement I've seen from "big" modders (cpw, CJ, Pahimar to just name a few) agrees with you. The users may try to be optimistic, but ultimately they won't take the hit should Microsoft break modding as we know it.

    Tech Mods: Missing the Point

Hmm, with that kind of power you can run lots of laser drills to replenish all that yellorium... and give you back a bit of the iron you used to make it too! :)

    Tech Mods: Missing the Point

Hmm, my last reactor (in 1.7.10, BR 0.4.0rc) was 8x6x6 and output about 15 kRF/t at powerProductionMultiplier=1.0. Scaling that up, 1-2 MRF/t are realistic if you consider that the core goes from 4x3x4 to 21x21x23. (BTW, maxReactorHeight is 48 in the standard config, maxReactorSize is 32.)

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

I don't blame him, I'd do the same thing. I just hope he'll put some of the money to good use, whether for gaming or humanity in general.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

I agree, such a blanket statement cannot be disproved. How they will behave in relation to Minecraft modding, I can only speculate about. Anyway, let's be positive, I can only hope you're right :) Only, experience with life in general and big corporations in particular makes that hard for me...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Where modding == loading new resource packs, sure. Maybe even official mods with some kind of API. But the richness of "our" mods, the reason we can play for months and still find new stuff to do, comes from the fact that modders have access to the complete game and can change *everything*. I...

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

Sure, Microsoft is known to fiercely support Java ;) More likely they rewrite it in C#, with the nice side-effect of locking out "strange" operating systems. Also, don't assume too much about the ability of the average Microsoft programmer.

Do you realize how current modding works? Microsoft will not tolerate the decompilation, deobfuscation and recompilation of their product to allow mods to work. Wow, 48 files in total. 30 of which are texture packs. EXTREMELY moddable, I'd say.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

New theory... After EULA/Bukkit and subsequent hatefest by some, Mojang decides to show the community how much worse it could become. To that end someone tips off WSJ about the supposed deal. Community freaks out for a few days. Notch tweets "not going to happen, but I hope you're now glad...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

I think it's pretty likely that Microsoft will start a rewrite of Minecraft at some point. One, to lock out "unsanctioned" community involvement, and two, to get rid of Java in favor of their own .NET. Until that is done (it might already be underway, with such a big company you never know) we...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

The fact alone that Microsoft certainly won't wait 20 years for the $2bn to amortize means that something has to change. In the best scenario it's just a lot more hype and merchandise around the game. In the worst... well, that has been discussed :)

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Same goes for minetest. The problem with all those is that Microsoft very probably will not have the same open stance on Minecraft clones that Notch/Mojang had, and that Microsoft can very probably find something to sue in all of those. Even if they don't, they can just send out a cease &...

May I direct you to the various 1.8 threads here that seem to disagree with that massive increase? If you're referring to El. Separators, that's not true, change HydrogenEnergyDensity. Did it and works nicely in your pack :)

Some mod items don't show up in NEI

Since NEI is open source we should probably just go and fix it :)

    Filtered hopper? (AEII Seed Automation)

A Filtered Hopper from Refined Relocation works well, and a Extra Utilities transfer node with world interaction upgrade and filter does too. Ender IO's Vacuum chest will also get a filter upgrade: https://github.com/CrazyPants/EnderIO/issues/991
