When mods use 32x textures for no reason (looking at you ars and ic2).
When mods use textures from resource packs which don't fit in vanilla minecraft (agriculture and chisel).
It doesn't affect gameplay, but still...
Installing mods that add new worldgen is probably not the best solution for you... But you should check out Pam's Clay Spawn. It generates clay undergroung with the same rarity as iron, and I have tons of it thanks to VeinMiner.
Not exactly related to the thread, but...
A russian letsplayer decided to make a modded minecraft series with Thermal Expansion. He installed IC2 "just to get more copper".
Nah, I turned down the density from 32 to 16 and it's alright.
Also, if you hate the textures, there's a config option for alternative textures. And for removing particles.
There's a private 3rd party modpack by mDiyo (creator of TConstruct and Natura) called Questing Maiden. It has a lot of mods, a quest system and a pregenerated world, but it's the closest to Hexxit you can get on FTB.
