I was thinking of having a pillar of cobblestone (or maybe planks, as you say those don't get tainted) with ladders on all sides going up to the platform that has no direct contact with the pillar/ladders. Would this work?

I was planning on playing Hubris/Atonement and I have something I haven't grasped from the torrents of threads I read. Living on a floating platform: does it spare me of taint? How? Doesn't it climb? Do I get a cobblestone pillar surrounded by ladders? What?

I was thinking of testing having my SP world hosted in my machine, since I've been seeing mentions that it runs better. I have also been seeing talkings of Cauldron, Spigot, Bukkit. I'm confused. Are any of these names relevant for a local server? What should I look for?

Agricraft has the Irrigation Channel that you craft with 3 wood planks. Now there is also something else, also from Agricraft, also called Irrigation Channel, that you craft with 4 Irrigation Channels (the ones from the planks I mentioned first). What does it do?

MCEdit is a third party program that allows to edit saves, add materials, delete or move characters. Install it, read/watch a tutorial (what I suggested is a simple thing to do) and move your character to the Overworld or something. Then close the program and try to run the game. If you want to...

Not sure about know or something, but try using MCEdit and moving your character to your base. There might have been an error with relocating you. If so, MCEdit will do the trick (also you have backups; check when they were last made and see what troubles you less: rolling back, or using MCEdit).
