I tend to use routers for large scale automation, like 20+ apiaries. They are somewhat annoying if you want to retrieve next generation, and you have to connect it to a piping system anyways, since Factorization doesnt have a native piping system besides you want to lay down your whole world...

Well in the end you had to configure your modpack too, even if you have gotten the permission ^^ and yes there is some mod of that kind too, where you have pokeballs and can catch all animals and "send" them in vs other mobs, though don't know if its still developed

I had a setup which used BC logic gates to detect either long pulses or short pulses (pulse detector) if you have a very very long pulse you can assume that the router is stuck and therefor you need to pull ALL items out at best so only 1 redstone tick is sufficient. Worked pretty good, though...

You have to consider, that you can't just dig down to level 10 and expect all ores anymore. They only spawn in seperat layers, so if you search something special go to its layer

As far as I know, there are some pokemon based mods out there like minemon or something like that. If its just for your son, you can use MultiMC and install one of the FTB installation of your choice and add your own mods via "edit mods". There might be some ID conflicts, but you can solve them...

those values are stored in their configs in the configs-folder. They are mostly stored in a table called "blocks" or "ores". Though I don't understand what you mean with "Item Subsets". Do you mean out of which mod a certain ore is generated?
