It says "Pine Forest" upon F3, but that doesn't seem to be a Vanilla Biome according to the Minecraft Wiki (which uses the word "Taiga" to describe a biome practically identical to the one I've built my base in). Back to quarries: Are you saying that the game only renders the blocks I...

Ah, that explains the quarries, then. I had originally planned to build my base at a level about halfway down it, since the quarry would eventually outgrow unquarried ground in the loaded area. I guess it means my game will keep crawling until I hit a point where the quarry walls unload from...

^Thanks, I found out now. Turns out the initial power drain from the MFE was simply the Furnace charging up. Once it was charged, it stopped draining EU until I gave it something to work with. Also, I was using the wrong recipe. Seems like Coal Dust and Refined Iron is the way to go. Now...

An idiot on an adventure to build a quarry

Blast casing first. Reinforced stone, reinforced glass, and obsidian galore. Make the reactor room so safe that in case of an explosion, nothing else will be destroyed. Also, have a Thermal Sensor and an alarm. Unless you screw up royally, it will take quite some time for a reactor to heat up...

I'm playing Ultimate, and after much ado I finally assembled my Industrial Blast Furnace today. The light on the front shone green, my MFE was nearby and filled up, the birds were singing and life was good. "Time to make some steel," I thought and connected the MFE to the Furnace block with a...

An idiot on an adventure to build a quarry

When I'm "out" of stuff to build, I usually turn to nuclear reactors. They require a lot of resources (at least in Tekkit Lite, a full setup required some eight hundred copper or so), make your life easier (if you've got a way to store all the EU), and are functional enough (I usually hook a...

It seems like none of the official packs in the pipeline at the moment will contain GregTech. However, given that many people seem to like the mod, it's not impossible that it will come to a pack some time next year. Unhinged is a 1.5 pack with GregTech, but on the flipside it lacks a few mods...

    Forge 1.7

I almost wonder why the modding community at large bothers with 1.7 at all. Why not take Christmas off, and start directly on 1.8 when released this spring? Snapshots will apparently be out in January. Then again, the actual 1.8 release can still be months away, and I suspect the conversion...

After playing Tekkit Lite for a while, I just began playing FTB Ultimate on the same computer. In Tekkit Lite I can swoosh around with Fancy graphics, render distance Far and Smooth Lightning without any lag issues. FTB requires me to have render distance set to Short, Fast graphics, turning...

    Falling Chickens from the sky???

Good to hear others have experienced massive framerate drops because of this. After an intense exam period, and a few days of socializing with friends and family (read: re-adjusting to society after exam period) I decided to install FRB on my laptop as a Christmas treat to myself. When it...

I feel like 1.4 gregtech was the best gregtech ever.

I think the crux of the problem (or at least, one of the cruxes) is that people play the game differently. Everybody has their own ideas of fun, or what makes a good game. Some like to shoot for the "God of all the universes" as fast as they can, while others play the humble caveman, slowly...

I feel like 1.4 gregtech was the best gregtech ever.

The direction that GregTech has taken saddens me too, a little. When reading the OP, I almost felt like I had to write a disclaimer stating that I'm not a puppet account of yours, or vice versa. You took the words straight out of my mouth. I never played GT 1.6, but I recognize the stuff you say...

Request Suggest mods for creation here

I wish for another mod to do something along the lines of GregTech, though without the "altering recipes" thing. I'm talking about the expensive end-game stuff as well as the plethora of rare materials required to get there. In IC2, getting your first Macerator down is kind of a milestone. It...

    Overloaded with Creosote Oil

Semifluid Generators can be fed Creosote Oil via pipes and convert it to EU. Hook a couple up to your power grid, and it will serve as an extra power supply. It won't give you much (8 EU/Tick per generator), but could be used as a "buffer" to mitigate the loss of solar power production at night.

I've played Tekkit Lite extensively, so I know most of the mods you've listed very well already (well, apart from MFFS, that is). Thing is, none of them really have the endgame scope that GregTech offers. They are fun, sure, but I was looking for that little extra bit. TE? I'm new here, so I...

Those little things that irk you about Minecraft

Closing the ME Access Terminal window... Muscle memory always makes me use the E button, then possibly D or S as I try to move away from the terminal. It always takes an annoying quarter of a second to realize the window is still open.

Thanks for the replies, both of you! I too noticed that GregTech has become somewhat invasive ("What? You need tools to craft buckets now?"), and while Greg's vision of a more complex, challenging Minecraft experience sure might be a cool thing, what I like the best is the elusive materials and...

*pokes head out* Sorry if this first post of mine is anything but simple. I might be breaking a rule or two, excuse me in advance. I'm one of those "slow" people, who stayed with Tekkit Classic for months before realizing that it wouldn't be updated any more, and that Tekkit Lite was a better...
