    This is caused by some mod, please pastebin or attach your forge log from your server dir.

    Try asking him to run it in SSP, because portal gun and gravity gun mod download files from external sites when joining a server/loading an SSP world. And then ask him to connect to your server. P.S. I had the same problem and this is how I resolved it
