In NEI search up iron dust or something else you know comes out of a macerator, look for the recipes that use the macerator, click the macerator 'progress bar' to see all the macerator recipes.

And, as has been stated several times, the recipe for the macerator is the IC2 recipe, the one that uses flint, the simple easy cheap one. Infact, the first recipe you will most likely notice that has changed is the Solar Panel.

Chances are, if an age is created randomly, it will have instability. However, if you make the age yourself, as long as you write it right, there will be no instabilities (except with dense ores, as they always have instability).

Desert biomes. Sapphires are in Ocean biomes. However, when Redpower updates, that could change. Iridium ores appear in roughly 1 out 5 chunks at any level.

Well, assuming they can (although I'm not sure as Docm halfslabs areas around a witch farm to prevent spawning) you coulds always use upside down stairs for the floor (assuming they don't spawn on them). It would make a ceiling 2 tall however.
