Just load new chunks and it will generate in those new chunks. If you have Mystcraft installed, create a new age and it will also spawn there.

I've used Tinker's Construct seared stone in past builds if you want a smooth alternate. Extra Utilities has border stone and alternate border stone that you might be able to colorgrade.

I'm pretty sure that as long as you have certain items near the research table, you slowly gain research points (lava for ignis, water for aqua, dirt/stone for terra, etc. You can even use the crystals that are made up of 6 shards to do this I'm pretty sure).

Sounds like you haven't played with much magic with minecraft. May I suggest Magic World or Magic Farm?
