Actually you can enable it separately, that is what I do. Just set your graphics to fast. Then to go details and set items to fancy instead of default.

You almost certainly will not be able to do that. Mojang is introducing a resource package system API in 1.6 which will change the way mods are installed and handled. This affects everything including texture packs.

Feed The Beast does not work with Mojang, and so their code very often conflicts. They made a lot of changes in 1.5 so mod creators are not updating because 1.6 is already coming. 1.6 will be a complete re-write of the code.
