I've noticed this as well in 2.5.2, what is happening is you're still vein mining the first conduit after you've broken it which will take away all your hunger (if you pick lasts long enough) as well as break the pick. I've also noticed that this could be abused to spawn slimes as well. Example...

This happened to me three times so far today it causes an internal server error and kicks everyone on the server.
