If all the mods from the original modpack (DW20 in your example) are still in the modpack you're moving to (new Unleashed in your example), then yes, you should be able to transfer your world and everything should still be acting the same (as all the item IDs will be the same thanks to universal...

I do the same in single player mode, but multiplayer servers usually run for a much longer time, and have a lot of big builds to keep you occupied for a longer time. It's always heartbreaking to lose all that work. :')

I am intrigued by the secret internal project. I'm very interested in seeing how a modpack can change how we play modpacks/minecraft. :)
