I think this bug is fixed in 1.1.15 or 1.1.16. If you are playing on 1.1.14 just place a Vacuum Chest or Vacuum Hopper above your Machine.

Try Chapter 2 of the Questbook. There is a Quest where you have to go to the Nether Cube. There is enough lava for you.
