Obtainable Bedrock?

Not to my knowledge, no. Imagine the griefing it could cause on servers!
Warded blocks from Thaumcraft are effectively the same thing (unbreakable to everyone except the player who placed them). Unless they can be broken by the usual stuff like mining lasers and block breakers, I haven't tested it myself?

(safe but not cheap)Yes, but not all bedrock, a quarry will remove bedrock that get's in it's way while setting up. This makes it possible to remove the top layer in the nether or some of the bedrock on the bottom-layer if you manage to get a quarry underneath.
well then mffs is way to go as it even has upgrade that damages all npc in forcefield helping you kill him

MFFS would be your best bet, since the wither can crunch thaumcraft blocks.
If you want a bedrock floor, use the quarry trick to clear out an area before setting up.
Edit- the personal safe (IC2) is indestructible to all except the owner, admin/creative and the quarry laser. 100% blast proof- though the explosion passes through so it won't contain any blasts.

Mount some deployers on frames, and you can auto-build and kill withers as you need.

I know this is an older thread but I came across it in my searches. I wanted to make a cheap wither killer too. Tried a few things, long story short I figured something out. Check out the video:
If youre going to be that cheap, you might as well just spawn in some stars though NEI and be done with it.
There is a cheap way to get fast nether stars:
Fill your inventory with Grav Guns.
Make a Twilight Forest Portal and get struck by the lightning.
Uncraft the Supercharged Grav gun.
Get a billion Nether Stars.
Do it again. Tada!
Inf N Stars.

The video was done in a test world, but it works in survival and it's easy to get. Had no armor and limited supplies and was able to kill a wither boss with no damage.
Ive seen some issues with warded glass and killing withers. But the warded blocks seem to work fine.
Also seems to work best on SSP but when you get on a server warded glass gets hella glitchy sometimes getting broken and taking like a second or two to reform.

I was able to do this setup on a server as well and it worked, but I agree it could probably glitch out if there is some latency. Just curious, when do the blocks disappear? When the wither enters them or the explosion?
The point of the warded blocks is to stop the projectiles from breaking the cart, which is holding the wither boss in place.
from what I can tell warded block seem to not actully be indstructable. Some times the withers attack will break one. On SSP with no lag its not a huge issue Thuamcraft is coded to make the block reform almost automaticly but even then testing with glass and stone it happens much less with stone for some reason.
What happens for him to glitch out is he pushs on the walls as he tries to kill you and hes only a 1 wide 2 tall mob dispite how he looks. So if he breaks just two blocks he will slip into them when they refrom he pops out of the trap.[DOUBLEPOST=1366578633][/DOUBLEPOST]this is always why in that thread I lnked I opted to build it like I did to block line of sight and making him stand in a hole makes it nearly impossable for him to glitch out while you punch him to death.
