What's my best option to play 1.7.2 pack?

FTB Unstable is good, but 1.0.3 is very outdated.
ATLauncher's Strawbery Vanilla is more up to date, but has too little mods, I have to add and config everything by hand there.

Are there other options?

Not really. I had my own instance based on Unstable, but since updating Forge and a bunch of mods I can't get it working anymore. The mods may be developing, but packs are slow to come due to instability.

Yeah, the issue seems to be that Forge is somewhat unstable, and mods built against different versions thereof won't work together at the same time. Give it a couple more weeks and we'll probably have Forge for 1.7.whatever-the-current-one-is, and mods for it.

Just make your own pack. No more ID conflicts means nobody can use the excuse of not wanting to spend hours fixing IDs anymore.

Eh, you've still got the problem of conflicting mod versions (as previously mentioned with respect to Forge), and configs (generation, interactions, etc.), and any kind of server install you're wanting.

Don't get me wrong, removing ID conflicts (by moving to a name based, rather than ID based system @Elias Gordon ) solves a large amount of the headache when setting up a modded MC instance, but it's by no means plain sailing.[DOUBLEPOST=1403030288][/DOUBLEPOST]
Item IDs in the 1.7 Forge are automatically handled. No conflicts until you have more blocks than fit in the available space (which, to my knowledge, is currently impossible).
I thought it was a vanilla change, moving from ID to name?

I haven't cared enough to check, so I just used the most inclusive definition I could. With Forge for 1.7, IDs are automatically handled. It may be a vanilla change, but I've read it both ways so I don't really know anymore.

I can understand the modded community is frustrated at Mojang about the relatively poor updates which are really only interesting to PURE VANNILA players that haven't played with stuff that is already avaiable in mods, but this was a great change for the modded community. If one just thinks it's from a mod, even the good things Mojang does for the modded community are ignored.

I can't speak for the community, but I personally am not in the least frustrated with Mojang. I honestly think they're doing a good job, and have done so for the nearly four years I've owned a copy of Minecraft.

That said, I had seen claims made both ways (vanilla change versus Forge change) at the time I wrote my initial response to this thread, and I really, honestly, truly, cannot be bothered to hunt down the facts. Ultimately, even in my guise as occasional dabbler in mod writing, it doesn't really matter -- I am grateful to whomever made it happen, and made it work well, without needing to be specific about it*.

I'd like to ask you not to read into my words things that I've not said; I am not a modded community, I am not frustrated with anyone, and I don't 'just think' anything is from a mod or otherwise.

* In fact, I'm willing to bet it's more than just a vanilla change: I have no doubt the Forge team needed to make careful changes to their API to support this, as well as carefully testing that as few things as possible broke in the various edge cases I can't currently imagine, but which I am certain exist.

The DIY suggestions are cool, in theory. ID conflicts aren't the main issue, it's Forge versions, Java arguments, and all that rot. That is if you're trying to use current versions.
Also there about zero bits of information about Java 8 & modded Minecraft. Unstable is an understatement.
