First open MultiMC
At the top choose the button that creates a new instance and from the dropdown click "Import existing .minecraft"
Navigate to the .minecraft folder located in the FTBETAA folder location and import it.
This creates a new instance for you to name.
Click the button labeled "Edit Mods" to the right or right click the instance and select edit mods
In the Jar tab click the button marked "MCForge"
Choose the most recent build of Forge and install it. ( Some people have reported they needed to use an earlier version of forge.)
Go back to the jar tab and click "add" find the 1.4.2 Optifine zip and add it.
Ensure Optifine is last in the list of jar mods.
You can also add any other jar files you want this way though you may have to do some work with configs and id's and they may not all be compatible.
Press "rebuild jar" and play.
The reason you need to do it this way for the BETA pack is that currently loads the mods in a way that makes Forge overwrite the jarmods. This breaks optifine. The launcher team is working on this.
In the newest version of the Launcher some people have reported sucess in installing Optifine by placing it in the istMods folder. Some people have not been able to get this to work.
