If you have been keeping tabs on the RED thread and the WNIMMT threads you hopefully have stumbled upon my latest modding endeavors: Attained Drops. I feel bad for hijacking the RED thread for all of my personal questions/discussion so I started this thread.
Info on the mod can be found here: http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/225308-attained-drops
Some items I wish to inquire/seek advice on:
  • Should wither skulls/nether stars/dragon eggs be grown in any way shape or form - they would not follow the mechanic for the current drops, and it would likely either be nether star or wither skulls. Something of adequate difficulty/grindiness would be achieved.
  • Should the ability to bonemeal the plant and cause a bulb to sprout be default on or off. Currently you can grow the plant to the complete stages with bonemeal but the bulbs are unaffected by bonemealing. This would mean a fairly easy cyclical action on producing bonemeal as one of the bulbs drops bones...
  • What are some good ways that drops could be attained in peaceful? This is something I think I want to tackle but am not sure of a good method of doing well. Worldgen is big thing, long to implement and more world-breaking per update than just losing a couple of plants but I am interested in the concept. It has been suggested by @NJM1564 is a biome that has plants and medium that would produce drops that would otherwise be mob drops - bone trees and such. Other ideas are random dungeon loot, and possibly a plant of some sorts that very slowly produces all of the drops, possibly consuming soul sand in order to do so.
  • Any feedback on current game elements/default config values.
Thoughts?

I like what was suggested in the other thread: Having peaceful animals drop bones and possible other things like that as well. As for getting the startup resources, it may be a form of worldgen, but I kind of like how thaumcraft adds in those flowers to help you along.

It would be neat if wither skull plants required getting every other plant to get the wither seed. A zombie seed could be made by combining pork, seeds and an iron bar, then tossing it on the ground in a thunder storm, like how a zombie pigman is made, with the iron being a lightning rod.

I'm sorry if I come off counter productive and if you mentioned these mods in the other threads but don't
http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...-nether-miscellaneous-nether-themed-additions
And
http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...ical-crops-farm-your-resources-3-2-0-now-with
Cover these needs?
I would love to know if I'm missing something. I love cool new mods.
Gany's nether is really cool but it has a lot of stuff in it, my mod is designed to be focused for people who want something specific
Magic crops is also cool but the plants are all really basic looking and it suffers from the same lack of focus - you can literally grow everything.
I also wanted something that could be highly configurable and I do mean everything:
  • growth rates
  • bonemeal chances
  • particle effects - disabled and the rate
  • spread rate of the soil
  • drop numbers - flat rate and bonus
  • xp usage while enriching the soil (can be 0)
And I wanted to make something that had some depth to it, didn't just use one style plant and involved some in world actions

So yes some of the basic needs are covered but I wanted more :)

Sweet :) I'm sold. I'll add it to the pack in playing. I REALLY love farming and your stuff does look awesome to me. I'm easy mode so more drops are never a problem.

Plus I have tanks and tanks of xp so I dig the xp use on enriching soil.

Let me play around with it a bit and get a feel for it and I will give any suggestion from a standpoint of someone who doesn't have hours a day to grind things out

I can't remember what mod it is part of off the top of my head, but wasn't there a mod that had a peaceful mode table/chest that would randomly produce mob type drops? Everything from rotten flesh, bones, wither skulls, etc? And then you could use it to make nether stars by crafting 3 skulls with some diamond swords and the like?

Extra Utilities, Peaceful Table! (don't know if it's still in the latest version, but it was in 1.6.4)

Could this be used with your mod to get the starter materials?

The extra utilities method only works if you are playing on peaceful.
Playing on normal mode, but with a server ban on mob farms, makes things difficult for a few types of drops.

ExU does have a method of getting drops in peaceful. I don't think the game play behind it is really enjoyable though and I don't think it should therefore be the only option. I am going to subscribe to the entity death event and add a "life essence" drop that would be quite rare by default and then have some way of using soul sand and said essence to produce a "drop bulb" (that sprouts at the top of plants). I will tackle world gen at some point to.

I was just going off of HeilMewTwo's post. Wasn't an actual suggestion! I do like the idea of passive mobs dropping some items, like bones. Maybe have a way to turn leather into rotten flesh, like some sort of decay mechanic? Occasionally cows drop skulls? Use decay mechanic to turn them into wither skulls? I dunno... Just going off in weird directions here...

One of the problems I have with trying to treat every different drop as a separate case is that you can come up with good ideas for most of them: string from wool, mobs can have a chance to drop bones, you can find a way to turn leather into rotten flesh and it makes sense, gunpowder can be reasonable crafted (and has recipes in many mods), but then the unconventional are hard... I'll see if I can't get a build out with something along what I have in mind tonight.
