Ok, trying to sit here killing time and I don't know why...but the following question popped into my mind.

When you start a new FTB Game, after wood/planks/sticks/tools/craftingblock...what are the first 10 items you build?

I've only started 3 new games (1 on my server, 2 single player) with FTB...but I think so far for me it's been:

  1. Furnace
  2. Chest
  3. Torches
  4. Cobble Stairs (I hate jump/jump/jump/jump to get out of my mine)
  5. Signs (to label things)
  6. Tree Tap
  7. Copper Cable
  8. Generator
  9. BatBox
  10. Electrical Engine
The after that would be the process of my first machines...generally pulverizer/macerator/extractor/electrical furnace.

Never used ME before though, so I think this process might change a bit since I plan on starting to use that now that it is in Ultimate.

#1 CRAFTING TABLE! LOL (i know its a given, just poking fun)
2. wooden pick
3. stone pick
4. furnace
5. chest
6. stairs for night mine if i didn't find wool
7. armor
8. bed
9. steam engines
10. pulverizer.

i usually have half a stack of diamonds and enough materials for nano armor before i even begin with ic2. Gregtech 4 life! lol

Disregarding the necessary workbench/pick/furnace/bed/chest/etc., here are my first 10 items:

1. Slag Furnace (I try to maximize the amount of matierials I can use. Fuel is nto a problem when you have the...)
2. Coke Oven (This is an obvious necessity for any player! This is super handy when you have...)
3. (at least) 3 Hobbyist's Steam Engines (I tend to go TE most of the time. I use this to power my...)
4. Pulverizer (Maximizing materials! The pulverized materials go into the...)
5. Induction Furnace (Great way to cook and double your ores! Speedy and efficient! You also get slag, which is a breat bonus, as well as other dusts. This machine needs sand, which I get from...)
6. Igneous Extruder (I use a Minium Stone to convert the cobble into sand using a fabricator.)
7. Geothermal Generator (Starting my IC2 build! My first machines will be...)
8. Macerator (Call me inefficient, but I macerate wool into string, which I use for canvas bags!)
9. Extractor (More rubber!)
10. Canvas Bag (At this point, you're going to have lots of tools that you constantly keep coming back for. So, I just store a fresh supply of tools in here!)

My last 2 starts were quite similar:
1. Slag furnace.
2. Enchanting table
3. Bookshelves
4. Refinery
5. liquid transposer
6. One stirling engine
7. Combustion engine
8. Aqueus accumulator
9. Assembly table
10. Laser(s)

From this point with 9 more diamonds and a couple stacks of silver and lead I can start with better ore processing.

  1. Pocket Crafting Table
  2. Bed
  3. Door
  4. Furnace
  5. Torches
  6. 2x Chests
  7. 64x Ladders (easy access to diamond-level mining)
  8. Scaffolding
  9. Quartz Grindstone (including crank)
  10. 2x Iron Chest Upgrades
I kill a lot of trees on the first day.

1. Crafting table
2. Chests at least one double
3. Bed
4. Basic furnace
5. Upgraded tools "iron or better"
6. Power supply ic2/bc so that would be gen/stirling engines.
7. TE machines
8. SC assembler followed by tree farm cart
9. Fermenters & engines
10. Assembler table "or is it bench" for gates

After that I can relax a little & start laying out how I would like my base, compound, home, factory to get added, ie where the bees/mob grinders/TC room/sorting system/tanks for dna & other liquids will all go, I try keep inside chunks with each build so bees take one full chunk & below them the machines/tanks required etc, I never claim to be any good at ubber builds but do enjoy making networks that are mostly automated, & have made an effort to be a little more creative with building shapes & layout, 16x16 is the chunk size but 16x6 building are boring..

I hope thats answers your question :)

2. bucket
3. Treetap
4. geothermal generator
5. macerator
6. electric furnace
7. drill
8. batpack
9. diamond drill
10. iron chests

1 Furnace
2 Quartz Grind Stone
3 Mining/Diggers Backpack
4 Chest/Barrels
5 Ruby Tools / Mining Turtle
6 Hobbiest Steam Engine / Aqueous Accumulator
7 TE Furnace/Pulverizer
8 Nuclear Reactor / IC2 Machines
9 Tree Farm (Turtle/SC2/MFR)
10 Boilers

Fin

Obviously there is a lot of minor work in between like using a generator to power the IC2 machines to make the components for the nuke.

Nuclear Reactor as one of you first 10 items?...that's pretty quick. Though, there is actually a lot more than 10 items in your list :D

1. Chest
2. Stone tools (including stone axe+sickle to make farming trees easy)
3. Furnace
4. Torches
5. Cobblestone Slabs (I like 1/2 block steps rather than using stairs or jumping all the time)
6. Quartz Grind Stone (only use long enough to get engines+pulverizer up)
7. TE Steam Engine (usually more than 1, not more than 4)
8. Pulverizer
9. Induction Smelter
10. Igneous Extruder (use it in conjunction with the pulverizer to keep smelter full of sand)

That setup stays as my primary ore processing system until I setup my full sorting system, which doesn't happen until I've got my GT machines squared away. I actually hold on to most of my ore until I can send it through the industrial grinder so I can maximize total output. Notable other steps along the way include a mining turtle (or a dozen mining turtles), a coke oven, a rolling machine, a RC blast furnace, long fall boots, and just enough IC2 infrastructure to run a compressor+extractor and charge my electric tools/jetpack.
