Last update killed my server. Not only did it changed the block id's but even after fixing that it still doesnt let me connect because mods are missing.

So really dont push updates that break this kind of stuff rendering the game unplayable.

I don't mind updates, but I can't find news or anything on the main site of whats going on.
whats updated?
what is the update path for servers?

I was able to fix my client not starting, but now I can't get my server to start. :x

I couldnt start my server either at first because the id's changed after fixing that i still cant connect to the server because the mods in the client and the server are different versions. Manually fixing this results in crashes.

There is a NO option to these updates as well.. Why not just hit no until you can find out what's updated, or until you can find out if everything is working correctly? The update was not forced upon you, you had the option to decline it, and then find out more information about it before accepting.

I think it's the developer's responsibility to only push updates that fix, improve, extend or enhance the current version (all bugs aside of course). How can a user know which updates to trust? There is zero information given concerning either of the updates (client nor server).

Kind of a sad fact, but the creators/whoever pushed this pack need to assume that most everyone will click "Yes" Without thinking, because 90% of the time that's what happens. It's not the way it should be but its a fairly sad fact that dumb happens more times than not.

I think the major issue a lot of people are having is that there is no change-log attached to downloading the pack. On to the other half of what you said. While it is true that everything out there and probably even on this site says 'Back up your saves!' and 'Back up your folder' hundreds of times over and over, telling someone 'You should have backed up' when an update ruins hours of effort is, well, not very tactful and will likely come off as rude or mean. Also, as he's been a user since the 10th, it's likely to assume he's not had past issues with the launcher that ended badly. It's safe to assume your average person will always hit "update" if it's available.

Finally, add a lack of communication on what has changed and you have a customer service nightmare. You can say not-update all you want, but at the end of the day that's actually a bit of an excuse for an untested or even destructive update. So far, the full sequence of events are Update pushed, server not pushed, then server pushed, then another client pushed. Clearly, they are working on it, but some words of what's going on would be nice.

Yes, this is very true, most people do not listen, and will always hit the update button, no matter how many times you say not to (I know this from being an admin on an Minecraft for several months, and Minecraft updates are usually a nightmare). But people have got to keep in mind, this is the first ever mod pack the FTB guys have done, this is version 1.0.X. People have got to expect teething problems. No one can get everything perfectly correct on the first couple of tries. This is also the very first update for a mod pack they have released. So they may not have the correct order on what to do, or when to do it. The fact there are no update notes at all is bad, and I hope is just a mistake, or misunderstanding.

Well, to be fair, it's not 'exactly' not listening. In this age updates are common and everywhere. Your phone does it, your operating system does it, heck, most peoples gaming consoles do it. It's ingrained that updates=good, and it's common knowledge that they don't break things, and if it breaks you are in the minority and something is wrong. Also, I'd venture that FTB might also be a first-timer pack for a lot of people now, or they are coming from tekkit/technic which has been extremely stable (And stale, still 1.2.5).

As to the lack of updates, being in IT I'm going to just go out on a limb and guess it's devs being devs. Busy fixing the problem, no time for updates. That's what PR/Community Managers/GM's/Whateveryoucallem are for, checking with the engineers once in a while to get an eta or an update.
