I just have a few questions about Railcraft.

The first is, what is the point of the locomotive? If you have powered rails, you can have an item transport system without maintaining a locomotive with steam and everything. What advantages would a locomotive have over powered rails?

The second is about Railcraft and Immersive Engineering. Can IE take fluid out of big Railcraft tanks, because I could get it to.

The third is about Railcraft and Flaxbeard's Steam Power. Can FSP steam boilers be used to power locomotives? Or are they a completely different steam system?

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Locomotives are needed for pulling trains;
Useful for keeping your carts together in one bunch- avoid carts being stuck in places/chunkloading issues.
Railcrafts logistics and signalling mechanic.
Also the locomotive will deal with anything that wonders onto the track. So zombies/cows/players ect won't jam up your system.
Theres also the electric loco which runs off an electrified 3rd rail rather than a internal boiler.

The RC tank valves should allow any fluid pipe to connect.

If the FSP steam is the ore-dict fluid_steam then it'll work with other steam consumers.
So you should be able to use it to charge the 3rd rail.

Ok, I suppose that could be useful. So powered rails can't carry trains?

In that case it must be a problem with IE. I'll make an issue on their GitHub.

I just figured this one out, the steam FSP uses is different but they have a converter that wasn't in the normal tab but I found it in the creative search. So now I can get regular steam from FSP steam.

In addition to the previous question: can you refill a steam loco with pipes, or can steam only be made indie the loco?

Not sure if you can- However if you do you'll need to refuel a lot more often as raw steam doesn't last long- 10 buckets of steam isnt as much as 10 buckets of water + fuel.
If you want to run it off a boiler; use the electric loco and a steam turbine to charge the rails.
