I build a new place in my base where a can grow some crops who need dark places, but i'm having trouble with that crazy rate of bats spawning!
I have Chandeliers arround all that dark space, normal mobs aren't my problem, but it seem that the chandelier can't prevent bats from spawning.
Does anybody know how i can stop them from spawning? Their sound and just by flying arround annoys me :/

I can't just get some light at the ground i need the crops to grow.

Aren't chandeliers and magnum torches only good against hostile mobs?

Edit: iirc there is a slider to turn down passive mob sounds.

Problem with bats are that they're everywhere when you don't want them.

And can't find one when you need them.

Can bats actually spawn in midair? Most mobs, even ghasts, I know, can only spawn on top of solid blocks (which is why the space above the Nether ceiling isn't full of ghasts all the time). You might be able to stop the bat spawns by filling up all the soul sand space with netherwart, and slabbing all the netherbricks.

Hide some MFR grinders (or similar) in the walls, that'll keep the population under control and get you some resources in the process.

Bats spawn in areas that have no view to the sky. Try using dark glass as a roof for that room. It won't let the light in, but a view to the sky is visible.

I thought bats spawn where the light is low (zero), not just sky. If dark glass does not let light in, and it's still light zero even if you can see the sky, that would give bats still.

Wiki: "Bats can spawn in the Overworld at a light level of 3 or less on opaque blocks below layer 63"

Trust me, I've dug all the way to bedrock for one of my bases before and used dark glass, with No bats. As long as the room has a view to the sky. I've built many large, deep bases and don't have to worry about chirping bats just following this simple rule.
