Since i havn't played in ages, and just got back into this.. I feel like i do things really out dated. The last time i played on a world was before FTB was even out. Before things like boilers, AE was out.. etc.
So, does anyone have suggestions on ways i can improve my base? right now its fairly small, but i want to find ways to get a good amount of.. erm... stuff and production wise. I feel like my sorting system is really out dated and doesnt work well without logistic pipes, etc.

Also, is there a way i can make something to generate any energy, then split it as needed? Eg, i can make it giant and generate tons of general energy, then have things to convert it? Eg, into EU, MJ, etc.

Which modpack are you running?

If you want a central energy source that you can convert as needed, PowerConverters in the Ultimate Pack freely transforms any energy type into another. So you have a giant EU powerplant and then convert it to MJ if you want. Or vice versa. Personally, I use steam boilers as my core power generation, then use liquid tesseracts to transport it wherever I need it and convert it to EU or MJ with PowerConverters. Also saves a lot of space/material on turbines/steam engines.

Im using ultimate.

How does one go about a steam boiler? powerconverters and that seems perfect, and what can i power this boiler with? Can i use saplings for any of it? I have a ton and generate a ton, or wood? Both i have in massive abundance.

EDIT: How big would such a setup be, and how much room would the tesseract teleport system to whatever it is take?

Not too large and the tesseract teleport system is incredibly compact.

There are two types of boilers. Liquid-fueled and Solid-fueled. Liquid fueled take things like oil, biofuel, methane, e.t.c. Solid fueled takes wood, charcoal, coal, coal coke, blaze rods and stuff like that. The only wierdness is that you can't pump lava into liquid fueled boilers, you have to put it cans and put it in solid fueled.

Boilers can be any size from a single cube to a 3x3x4 stack. You can either use a high pressure or low pressure variant. The HP variant requires steel plates, the LP variant just needs iron plates. The difference is that the HP variant produces twice as much steam as the LP variant, at the cost of using twice as much fuel. So it's basically 2 LP boilers equal 1 HP boiler. Whichever size or pressure variant you pick, you'll have to put fireboxes underneath the bottom layer. There are two fireboxes, liquid and solid. Which one you use determines what sort of fuel the boiler will accept.

You'll probably want to look up a good youtube guide or tutorial on it to really understand it.

My current system uses 12 36HP boilers fueled by oil-producing bees. The way I set it up, I put a liquid tesseract on top of each boiler and connected it to the boiler with 8 tesseracts surrounding it in a circle. The 9points of contact give the maximum input that a liquid tesseract can handle. So each boiler ends up being 6 blocks high and 3 blocks wide.

how about looking at these threads and gleaning ideas from them instead of wasting time making a thread of your own.

Ive looked through them. But 90% of it i dont understand what it is, and how it works. I just want some tips on to improve the stuff i have as well as to set the best way for a power room.

Oh also, for your sorting system, I would suggest looking into Applied Energistics. BevoLJ has a really good spotlight on it in youtube.

It requires quartz, so you'll have to either journey far out to generate new chunks, or make a Mystcraft Age.
