I am fairly well into modded minecraft and I know quite a bit of the more famous mods, but even still there are lots of mod I don't know the full workings of or their secret uses. Obviously there are mod showcases on youtube from some of the FTB team members and other players who enjoy the game, but those don't really show mechanics most people don't try. I want to make a thread where people can talk about weird or somewhat out of the box ideas to use mods for. My current idea is related to RFTools, specifically the shield projector block. I know it can be used for a wither farm, but with the dragon now respawnable, I was wondering if you could trap the dragon inside of a shield and kill it manually, or even automatically if there is a grinder with enough range. I tried testing a shield with Hostiles Cannot Pass setting, and the dragon just passed right through. So I'm not entirely sure what to do, or even how the block works. I had to look it up to get a basic idea, honestly. RFtools isn't something I use beyond the crafter or modular storage, so new realm for me here. Any ideas to help in trapping the dragon?

Lost as always
Dragons go through and destroy all blocks, including bedrock, so they bypass the shield generator's ability to stop enemies because nothing can stop the dragon.

The only mod that requires you to 'farm' the EnderDragon (indeed, the only way that I know of to respawn one once it is dead) is Draconic Evolution. In which case, you simply start duping the Cores that need the ingots that the hearts are needed for, and obviate the necessity for farming the dragon by being able to artificially produce the items the drops are needed for.

Well, just as a note, dragon resplendent was a draconic feature but as of I believe 1.10 it is vanilla. End crystals made of nether star ghast tear and glass panes.

Dire did it in his expert mode skyblock playthrough- he used a corporeal attractor (Thaumcraft addon) to hold the dragon in position.
Yeah, but I'm playing SF3, which is 1.10.2. Thaumcraft has (very unfortunately) not been updated to recent versions yet, and I personally don't know if it will. I'm hoping so, it was my favorite magic mod in 1.7.10, which is when I started minecraft and mods

About the dragon thing. People made ender dragon farms in vanilla and even before it could be re spawned. However, these designs only farm the XP of the dragon as they either rely on reseting the death animation or similar glitches. (also, the ender dragon only breaks blocks that aren't found in the end. Pretty sure it can under normal conditions fly through every block though.)

There is also a nice interaction with falling block entities (yes, this includes the dragon egg), an ender portal and fences. In vanilla minecraft this isn't so useful as it needs an inane amount of resources to make anything with it but I am sure that you can think of something nice when you throw mods into this mix. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the ender portal can be replaced by any kind of portal that lays on the ground but not sure on that.

Slimeblocks can also be used to fire tnt without using up an tnt block (unless this is fixed). Not the most useful thing in vanilla unless you want to blow stuff up but if there are enough things in modded minecraft that still care about explosions it may be useful. (are those botania flowers still a thing that create mana using explosives? Because those are a good candidate to warrant a setup like this.)

Yes, I realize that this thread should be about mods and I just listed vanilla bugs/mechanics/whatever.Vanilla Minecraft has just had a lot more exploring when it comes to that kind of stuff than most mods.
